Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority issued a report, at least 9 people lost their lives due to the earthquake while 44 were injured.

Moreover, PMD Director General Mahr Sahibzad Khan said while speaking to the news channel, the damage due to the earthquake is minor and under control because of its depth. But the areas that are closer to the epicentre are suffering more damage due to the severe earthquake jolts.

In the USGS report, the intensity of an earthquake’s shaking decreases with distance from its epicentre, so an earthquake that occurs 500 km below the earth’s surface will have a far weaker effect on the surface than the identical earthquake that occurred 20 km below the earth’s surface. Moreover, USGS said that the epicentre of the earthquake was 40 kilometers south-southeast of the Afghan town of Jurm.

In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued an order for the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other institutions to be prepared to handle any disaster.

The media report says that the earthquake was felt in many cities across Pakistan including jolts were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Nowshera, Kohat, Multan, Swat, Shangla and many other cities.
